How can educational organizations intervene with students and teachers to improve student outcomes? How can they evaluate the effectiveness of these interventions?

Paul Marshall, Project Coordinator for Student Growth, North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, examined the effects of a 3rd grade summer reading intervention for students currently below grade-level. Brittany Mauney, Senior Education Association for Educator Data and Analytics at the Delaware Department of Education, examined the effect of a monetary bonus on the retention of “Highly Effective” teachers in high-need schools. Rafi Nolan-Abrahamian, Data Fellow at Fort Wayne Community Schools, examined the effects of Response to Intervention (RTI) on Tier 2 students.

This session will provide an overview of these three SDP Fellow capstone projects, each of which examines the effectiveness of a student or teacher-based intervention.
