SDP Convening 2017 has ended

Communities around the world are embracing the philosophy of "open" to crowdsource knowledge and resources to fuel solutions to intractable problems. The 2017 SDP Convening will be about sharing data tools, research, ideas, and insights in order to make our own collective work better for kids. Join us from May 17 - 19, 2017 at the Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel (606 Congress St, Boston, MA 02210).

I am an educational researcher and data scientist at Panorama Education. Much of my work involves social-emotional learning and its association with the traditional academic metrics of assessment scores, grades, attendance, and behavior. I love looking for patterns in data and the kinds of tasks that work entails (learning new statistical software, writing code, creating data visualizations). During my fellowship with the Strategic Data Project, I had the good fortune to work in an urban school district that had tons of great data—but the data could change weekly or even daily. That experience helped me build skills in automating work with data such as data cleaning and producing reports so that I can spend more time writing code and less time formatting tables and documents.
